June Automotive Sales Numbers (All Brands)

Read em and weep again boys ...

Chrysler is OOOOUUUUTTT. Down 41% from this time last year.

Strange to see Toyota off so much given the high demand for their hybrids.

I don't know how Subaru and Volvo had up months, but somehow they managed to pull it off.

     interesting.

chrysler's been out... i mean really: the nitro? avenger? caliber? commander? patriot? pacifica? i mean wtf were they thinking anyways?

toyota might have had the prius on the jump... but now all these 'better' hybrids are coming out. hybrid technology makes more sence in mid-sized and larger vehicles anyways. my buddy just bought a tahoe hybrid and he gets slightly better milage than me... in my family sedan... WITH a stick shift. even senetor mccain was impressed enough to buy ford's new fusion hybrid.

The Pacifica was actually a good ride, just marketed wrong.

The funny thing about the Caliber is that it's highly desired in other countries. My friend from South Africa is in the states the last few days and tells me how well received they are.

Nitro was supposed to be the common man's Range Rover Sport.

Avenger, Patriot, Commander - I have no fuggin idea!!!

But you have to admit, the 300C, Charger, and Magnum were damn good sellers and pretty good looking. The Magnum was the only US built station wagon that actually made American station wagons cool again!

300 and magnum were my two favorites for a while... so much so that i almost broke my no automatic rule and took a 300 home... after a few hrs... i had to take it back. dang no automatic rule... Crying

i say everything else was either a product of unfocused consumer research or budget cuts included random drug testing. chrysler may be able to make a good product (i still think the best truck to own is a ram) but WHO would buy and use the pacifica? i think i've heard that the crossfire was a pretty decent performer and fun to drive...  but a roadster from chrysler? fo rillieo? i don't blame the engineers... i blame the product managers.

honestly, i don't mind seeing  a market correction in this industry.  these guys have been profiting off stupidity for too long.  of course, they wouldn't have survived this long making crap rides if people weren't stupid enough to want them.

RIP big three...shoulda made stuff that wasn't entirely dependant on low rate financing and flashy advertising to sell.  and ya shoulda made rides that last longer than a presidential term before requiring replacement.

Co-sign. In the end, over the last 20 years or so these guys weren't making cars to sell ... rather they were making cars to sell FINANCING PRODUCTS some financial number cruncher found it would be more profitable to sell the financing (and continually lock people in with engineered obsolescence) as opposed to the car itself.

Chrysler did make some pretty good quality cars over the last few years. The 300C is a really nice car, and their trucks are awesome. I actually like the Nitro, but only the R/T version of it with the chrome 20's. That might be my next car if Chrysler is still in business in a year or so. I hope this mess makes all the American car makers build better product, and do it more efficiently. The last thing I want is for the automotive world to go the way of the television, where you have no choice but to buy foreign made product. I do still take pride in things that are "Made in the USA", as long as it isn't junk. Hopefully a lesson will be learned here.

Toyota has been down big all year, they also have a large line of large trucks/suv's just like Chrysler/GM who all are way down.  Subaru and Volvo sell moderate prices cars and are low volume, good to see South Korean cars still selling well.  Hyundai was just named most #1 by JD Power for initial quality yet again for a non-luxury brand.

Remember these numbers will be exacerbated if a company sold a ton of cars the year before and reaches a level of normalcy. The gains from Subaru and Volvo might simply be a product of brand loyalty and already small volume of products moved, equivalent to the year before. I mean, just look at the units moved from year to another. Volvo was like 7,000 units?
