As a few of you know, yesterday was quite eventful on what turned out to be literally "My Last Bachelor Ride", which is what I had called it from the beginning. After Marc (CantGetCaught) slid out very (extremely) early in the ride, I talked the other guys into continuing on at least for part of the rest of the route. Boy do I regret that decision. Rolling through Engle Moler Rd. on the way to Shepherdstown for some lunch and all was going well. HA!!!
Only done this road once before, but it seemed fairly familiar from the last time. Got to an akward S-curve that had both a decreasing AND increasing radius, and as I came out of the second half (the increase), I realized I was a little wide. About the same instant, I realized that the silver Subaru station wagon coming the other way was a little too close for comfort. Tapped both brakes (I know, right?) and made the situation worse, and was left with nothing to do but grin and bear it.
To the best of my recollection, I flipped over the handle bars, catching the left one with my knee (snapped the clip-on in half), and the right on with my upper thigh. Hit the left side of my head on the car and then landed next to the drivers side door, smacking the right side of my head hard enough to black out for a second. Must have hit and just rolled over once, cause when I came to I was facing the other way and moaning uncontrollably for lack of breathe. I looked up at the woman, who was totally freaking out, and let her know I was okay, and then against everyone's advise, stood myself up, checked all my limbs, and went over to check out what was left of my bike. Wasn't until after I went and sat down that my vision went completely blury for a second and then the pain in my legs got pretty intense.
Long story short, I came out of it with no head injury (other than headache), no breaks, and a swollen knee and bruised thigh (not to mention bruised pride).
Most importantly, STILL getting married this Saturday!!!
Thanks alot to Kevin, Mo, Patrick, and my boy Daniel for being there.
Here's the pics I took in my driveway today. When I get the rest from Daniel at the scene, I'll post them as well. Be safe out there everyone!!!
